Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school is required.

• 3 to 5 years of experience as full-time professional automobile mechanic is required, or Completion of a four-year automotive service technician apprenticeship program is required.

• Automotive service technician trade certification is an asset to have, but not mandatory.

• Ability to communicate well in English is required.

• A Class 5 valid driver’s license will be an asset.

Job Duties

• Inspect, diagnose, repair and service mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and components of cars, trucks and other automobiles

• Review work orders and discuss work with supervisor. Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace unit

• Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications and tune ups

• Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment

• Investigate, analyze, and determine faulty source and causes and create a cost-effective repair plan

• Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's performance specifications

• Advise customers on work performed, general vehicle condition and future repair requirements

• Clean and maintain equipment and tools
