Instrumentation and Control Technician

Note: This trade is transitioning to a Pan-Canadian Harmonized program, so it is important that Apprentices understand how that impacts their program path. Details on the transition can be found via the Industry Training Authority link, or contact your trainer for the most current updates.
Instrumentation and Control Technicians (AKA "Industrial Instrument Mechanics") install, repair, maintain, and adjust instruments used to measure and control processes in industries such as mining, pulp and paper manufacturing, petrochemical production, nuclear, thermal and hydro-power generating, and water treatment, among others.
Some of the instruments include primary control elements, transmitters, analyzers, sensors, detectors, signal conditioners, recorders, controllers and final control elements. They are used in industry to measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force and chemical composition.
Instrumentation and Control Technician is a nationally designated trade under the Interprovincial Standards Red Seal Program.
