Climbing Arborist
A “Climbing Arborist “is a certified tradesperson who cares for and maintains trees and other woody shrubs. Climbing Arborists perform tasks such as tree risk assessments, pruning and removal of trees. In their work they use both climbing and aerial lift devices, rope and rope-tools for rigging. They also identify and remediate mechanical injuries, damage, other abiotic tree disorders, and common root and crown disorders.
The apprenticeship pathway for Climbing Arborist is now available for registration. Both the apprenticeship and challenge pathway requires the candidate to demonstrate competency in a practical assessment in addition to a written exam. Please see ITA page referenced here for further details

Recommendations
The following education is recommended: Grade 10 equivalent (Grade 12 preferred), including English 10, Math 10, Science 10.
The Apprenticeship Program comprises 240 hours (8 weeks) of technical training. In addition, apprentices are required to accumulate 1,800 hours of work-based training. In order to receive the Certificate of Qualification (and Apprenticeship) both a final exam and practical assessment must be taken and passed meeting the specified achievement levels.
