Marine Fitter

Equipment Repair

The Marine Fitter apprenticeship program will prepare apprentices for the work associated with safe and efficient shipyard production. Apprentices will acquire the knowledge and skills required to be successful in the marine industry in addition to their primary trades’ competencies (refer to the Requirements section for qualifying trades). On completion of training, students will be able to achieve provincial certification.

Quick Facts

  • Requirements:

    To be successful in this apprenticeship program, students are recommended to have the following:


    • Certificate of Qualification in a qualifying trade (Metal Fabricator or Boilermaker), or,
    • Registration as an apprentice in a qualifying trade with a sponsor in the shipbuilding and repair industry.


    The Apprenticeship Program comprises Levels 1-3 of progressive technical training, with each Level taking 2 or 3 weeks (totalling 240 hours) to complete.
