Horticulture Technician

Horticulturists select, handle and utilize trees, shrubs and ornamental plants and turf grass for the design, development and maintenance of public and private landscaping spaces. They prepare soil and plants, and cultivate, prune and irrigate to maintain plant vigour.

Horticulturists also control plant pests utilizing appropriate integrated pest management techniques. Horticulturists may grow and market crops in both nursery and/or greenhouse environments, where they prepare plants for distribution.

Recommendations

The following education is recommended: Grade 10 equivalent (Grade 12 preferred), including English 10, Math 10, Science 10.

 

This Foundation program prepares students for Levels 1 and 2 of Landscape Horticulture, and enables graduates to follow three possible career paths: 1) Entry into industry as a skilled worker; 2) Academic credits towards the second year of 2-year diploma program; or 3) Entry into Level 3 of the Apprenticeship Program, Landscape Horticulturist.
