Metal Fabricator Endorsement: Marine Fitter

The Marine Fitter apprenticeship program will prepare apprentices for the work associated with safe and efficient shipyard production. Apprentices will acquire the knowledge and skills required to be successful in the marine industry in addition to their primary trades’ competencies (refer to the RECOMMENDATIONS section for qualifying trades). On completion of training, students will be able to achieve provincial certification.

Recommendations

The Marine Fitter endorsement is an optional post-Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) training program designed to recognize a specific skill set as defined and approved by industry. This endorsement is open to individuals who hold one or both of the following certifications:

 

  • Metal Fabricator (Fitter) CofQ
  • Boilermaker CofQ with Red Seal Endorsement.

 

SkilledTradesBC describes the program as comprising 2 levels and taking 8 weeks (240 hours) to complete. Note that BCIT has separated the training into 3 levels, with each level taking 2 or 3 weeks to complete, however the overall duration is the same.
