Welder-Fabricator

Welder-Fabricators have training in and are capable of welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in all positions, using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), MCAW (Metal Core Arc Welding), and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding) processes.

Welder-Fabricators use manual and semi-automatic welding equipment, flame-cutting, brazing and air-arcing equipment to fabricate plate, construct templates and jigs, and fabricate structural components from blueprints, structural steel drawings by interpreting the common weld symbols and bolted connections.

Completion of this program assists in finding entry-level work in the custom fabrication, construction, mass production, maintenance, petroleum, mining, forestry and shipyard industries.

Recommendations

This program provides technical training credit that can be transferred to Level 2 of a Metal Fabricator or Welder apprenticeship, along with 225 work-based hours credit toward the completion of their chosen pathway.

Students who register with SkilledTradesBC will qualify to test for pressure welding procedures in British Columbia. A Technical Safety BC (TSBC) Class IT Pressure Welder certification is required for apprentices wanting to pressure weld under a Class-A rated welder.
