Marine Mechanical Technician
Marine Mechanical Technicians install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain engines, drive trains and other mechanical, electrical and fluid systems used in the recreational marine industry. Some light commercial and industrial applications may also be serviced. This work involves all aspects of repairs to diesel engines, gasoline engines, outboard engines, conventional inboard drive trains and stern drives.

Recommendations
The following education is recommended: Grade 10 or equivalent (Grade 12 is preferred), including English 10 and Math 10.
The Apprenticeship Program comprises Levels 1 & 2 of progressive technical training, with each Level taking 10 weeks (300 hours) to complete. In addition, apprentices are required to accumulate 4,800 hours of work-based training.
A 24-week Foundation Program can jump-start your career without employer sponsorship by supplying the knowledge and skills to enter directly at Level 2, and providing credit for 350 hours of work-based training (refer to SkilledTradesBC for alternative paths into the occupation).
