Road Builder & Heavy Construction

The Road Builder and Heavy Construction Foundation program is intended to serve as a pre-employment program for individuals who wish to enter the road building and heavy construction industry. In addition to an orientation to road construction and heavy construction, the program covers worksite health and safety practices, environmental requirements, equipment operation and maintenance, involving the use of hand and power tools, ladders and scaffolding, plus rigging and material handling.

The Civil Engineering module covers surveying and construction drainage, basic soil mechanics/geology, principles of excavation and shoring, plus handling aggregates, asphalt pavement, and concrete.

Recommendations

The following education is required: Grade 10 English and Math equivalency.

 

This Foundation program comprises 4 weeks (120 hours) of training, using a combination of in-school training, self-study and work site tours. Refer to Skilled Trades BC for full details.
